About Hidradenitis suppurativa

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the axilla, genitals, perineum, and perianal regions. The cause of hidradenitis suppurativa is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach to treatment involving medical and surgical management when indicated. The condition is known for recurrent draining abscesses, scarring, sinus tracts, and discomfort. Mild cases can often times be controlled with medications. However, recurrent or severe cases often require surgery. The surgery can often result in more scarring and disfiguring appearance, especially in the sensitive genital region.

Using advanced laser and RF energy combined with medication we can often avoid surgery and improve some of the appearance of prior surgeries for this condition.  The patient below was referred to us with active Hidradenitis suppurativa abscesses and considerable pain with the intention of repeat surgery. In the past, she had undergone multiple surgeries for this condition leaving obvious scars.   We elected for an alternative approach of Laser and RF treatment of the vulva to both resolve her pain – not add to more disfigurement – and to improve the baseline appearance.
